All Hallows’ Eve (Hallowe’en) falls on 31st October each year, and is the day before All Hallows’ Day, also known as All Saints’ Day in the Christian calendar. The name derives from the Old English ‘hallowed’ meaning holy or sanctified.  In Australia today, Halloween is becoming increasingly popular as a seemingly light-hearted celebration of all that is evil and sinister.  Our focus as Christians, is not on the darkness, but on the light.  Jesus said:  “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
