1 Thessalonians 2:1-12

DiscussionQuestionsFullBanner.PNG

Do you belong to any clubs? Which club/group is it? And what do all of the members have in common? Paul went everywhere to recruit people for God’s kingdom.

Sometimes these places were tough and hostile. But rather than run away, Paul persevered and kept sharing about God. He tells us that being a follower of Jesus means relying on God, sharing the Good News, caring, loving and encouraging each other

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 (pages 1-2)

1.      When Paul visits Philippi (and other places), how did the people treat Paul?

(They treated him very badly. This happened at nearly every place were Paul went, including Thessalonica).

2.      What enabled Paul, Timothy, and Silas able to continue in their work? Why didn’t they run away?

(God gave them courage to keep going even though people were being mean. God trusted them with this task. They were motivated by the truth. They had pure hearts. They really believed that the people needed to hear this news).

 Read 1 Thessalonians 2:5-8 (page 2)

3.      How did Paul and his friends treat the Thessalonians? What do you think this tells us about how we are meant to treat others?

(With great love and care. They were open and willing to share the Gospel. They were completely honest. They spoke with joy. They treated them as if they were family. They weren’t trying to be powerful, intimidating, or bossy).

Read 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12 (page 3)

4.      Was it hard work for Paul and his followers? Do you think it would be hard work to preach God’s good news to those who are mean, hurtful, or don’t want to know about it?

(Yes, it was and is hard work. It is difficult to live holy amongst those who are not, it can be exhausting and often you will not see any change in people. You might feel like it is pointless or helpless).
